Influenced by his father who owned a dental laboratory and also by his favorite childhood dentist, Dr. Berkeley Nicholls was surrounded by the dental field and sought to become an established dentist at an early age. He had his humble beginnings in his home-city of New York, New York, where he attended Long Island University (LIU) with an active interest in the sciences. Balancing being a student athlete in tennis and his scholastics, Dr. Nicholls impressively remained on the Dean's List and was a part of the honors program at LIU. He also worked for LIU as a certified tutor in subjects such as biology and chemistry, and worked outside of LIU for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He eventually stopped playing tennis for LIU in order to fully focus on his academics, and in 1983, he graduated from LIU with honors with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Biology.
Upon graduation, Dr. Nicholls taught at Susan Wagner High School in Staten Island, New York as a high school science teacher. He then migrated to Boston, Massachusetts where he attended Tufs University School of Dental Medicine on scholarship, eventually receiving his D.M.D. in 1988. After graduating, he moved back to New York where he became a general practice resident with a concentration in oral maxillofacial surgery at Lincoln Hospital for one year. The following year, he became a chief resident in general dentistry at the Department of Dentistry at Harlem Hospital Center. After completion of his residency programs, Dr. Nicholls then moved to New Jersey with his wife, and began his first dental practice, Family Dental Care, P.A., there in 1993.
During his time in New Jersey, Dr. Berkeley Nicholls grew his practice where he gained a high volume of patients and a great reputation. After 4 successful years, Dr. Nicholls decided to use his talents to serve his country and joined the Air Force Reserves in 1997 where he worked as a dentist for Air Force Personnel. His practice grew for another 8 years, and after 11 long years, Dr. Berkeley Nicholls decided to move to South Florida with his wife and two children. He opened Paramount Dental Care, P.A. in West Palm Beach, Florida in 2006 and has been running an effective and efficient practice ever since.
Along the way, Dr. Berkeley Nicholls has completed numerous training programs and has received many accolades and certifications. His training includes areas in leadership, surgery and prosthetics, orthodontics, implantology, and more. He has been certified in phlebotomy, oral implantology, orthodontics, conscious sedation, and general dentistry. He has gained membership into the Academy of General Dentistry, Atlantic Coast Dental Research Clinic, and International Team for Implantology. He has also earned Fellowship status in The International Congress of Oral Implantology (FICOI).
When not at work, Dr. Nicholls still actively serves his country, now as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, riding his motorcycle and bicycle with friends, playing the piano & saxophone, martial arts, giving back to the community, and reading. He has a beautiful wife; Dr. Kathy Nicholls, who is a psychologist and also a business owner. He also has two wonderful daughters; one a college graduate and aspiring attorney, and one a high schooler with an interest in the fine arts. Even in his free time, Dr. Berkeley Nicholls loves talking about dentistry; specifically new dental technology, patient success stories, and how excited he is to get to the next level in his career.
